The USS Gudgeon (SS-211) left on her 12th patrol 4 April 1944, checked in at Johnson Island on 7 April and was never heard from again. Her loss is a mystery. On 7 June 1944, she was officially declared lost and presumed lost. Electricians Mate Second Class was listed as Missing in Action and later declared dead 15 January 1946.
