During operations along the Indo-China coast, the USS Cabot (CVL-28) was assigned a search area and aircraft was launched to seek out enemy vessels and planes. On January 21, 1945, ENS Walker was aboard an Avenger torpedo bomber that didn't retrun to the carrier. He was listed as missing in action and later declared dead.
