What are you doing now:
Local news keeps me busy these days, with energy reporting focused on nuclear and utilities for Wilmington's StarNews, the local newspaper; WHQR, the local public radio; and Reuters. Reports to the wire have also included articles about Carolina governments on all levels for the Municipal Bond Desk and bits of spot news from time to time.

The freelancing keeps me in the action, providing some return for the hours I spend on the Internet. It is the unplanned result of taking a buyout from Reuters in December 2001 to end that bane of working in New York City -- commuting. At the time, my hope was to find a small news room, with clean air and a short commute. Instead I found a lot of sticker shock and age discrimination. In the summer of 2006, my wife's need for cleaner air than New Jersey provides forced a move without the hoped for new job. The result, freelance reporting from the Carolinas, where I appear to have created the news room I could not find.
