Presidential Descendants
Have a Great-Great-Grand Time

NEW YORK, April 30, 1989.
Horatio Lincoln was among Lincoln relatives descended from the President's uncle, and seated at a table with Eleanor Axson Sayre, Woodrow Wilson's granddaughter, a curator emeritus at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. ''Yours was a Democrat, and mine was a Republican,'' said Captain Horatio A. Lincoln, who is retired from the United States Navy. ''But,'' replied Mrs. Sayre, ''he was a liberal Republican.''

The occasion was the bicentennial of the first President's first inauguration, about 100 First Descendants got together for breakfast at Fraunces Tavern on Broad and Pearl Streets, to discuss who was related to whom. It was the first time that so many presidential kin - direct and collateral, from George Washington's great-great-great-great-great-great-niece to Ronald Reagan's third cousin, representing almost every one of the country's 40 former Presidents - had been brought together in one place.

CAPT. H. A. LINCOLN, Balboa Port Captain since June 1952, will leave the Isthmus next month on completion of his tour of duty here. He has been assigned to the command of the Navy Transport General Breckenriage, which operates in the Pacific.

Prior to his assignment to the Canal Zone he had been with the Military Sea Transportation Service, with headquarters in San Francisco.

Captain Lincoln, who of course is familiarly known as "Abe," will be succeeded as Balboa Port Captain by Capt. Anthony C. Roessler who is arriving here in July.

Other Memories

USS General J. C. Breckinridge (AP-176)
In 1955 she was again modified, losing her armament and receiving additional lifeboats. She remained an active part of the MSTS nucleus fleet as one of its few commissioned ships until December 1965, when she was inactivated and turned over to the Maritime Administration for layup in its reserve fleet.
