Michael John Draper, 69, of Houghton Lake passed away on Tuesday December 23, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was born on December 27, 1944 in Bay City, to Daniel and Veronica(Zins) Draper.He moved to Houghton Lake at an early age and attended Houghton Lake Community Schools, graduating in 1963. Michael served in the Navy Combat Helicopter Support Squadron during the Vietnam War, where he received a purple heart. He worked for ITT Hancock in Roscommon as a die setter for many years retring in 1990. On October 13, 1979 Michael married Gilda Ann Mione. He was a member of the Roscommon VFW, VVA Post #264 in Roscommon, Higgins Lake AmVets, St. Helen American Legion, the Purple Hearts, and was a daily volunteer and active in the presentation of the Vietnam War Wall Memorial when it traveled to Houghton Lake last July. He was very active in Houghton Lake Bobcats sports and was known as "Mr. Bobcat". He also enjoyed traveling on road trips, he was avid about recycling, and was very religious about his weekly lottery tickets. Most of all Mike was dedicated to his family life at home.
