He was Aide and flag Secretary to Admiral Hilary P. Jones, Commander in Chief United States Fleet in 1922 and in 1923 was ordered to the Naval Academy where he served as executive officer in the Department of Navigation and later as head of the Department of Electrical Engineering. He was the author of Navigation and Nautical Astronomy which is still used as a textbook at the Naval Academy and in the merchant marine.

Operational and Building Data: Laid down by New York, Shipbuilding, Camden, NJ., February 10 1904. Launched August 12 1905. Commissioned April 17 1907. Decommissioned December 16 1921. Stricken November 10 1923.
Fate: Broken up for scrap at the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard in 1924.
