Last Known Activity:

Ltjg Melvin C. Howell of HS-2 received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his part in an attempted SAR mission in North Vietnam, Sunday, Nov. 7, 1965, in which his aircraft was shot down. All four were rescued and honored for heroism.

He was still waiting for confirmation of medals not awarded for a Silver Star, Bronze Star (Army), and 2nd Distinguished Flying Cross from HA(L)-3 tour.
