Last Known Activity:

Allan, or "Corky" as he was known to family and friends, was the eldest child of Samuel M. & Margaret M. (Martin) Gindy. His parents divorced in 1940, and Allan, along with his sister, Betty, stayed with their mother. Their father joined the U.S. Army to serve in WW II, and their mother eventually got remarried to Allen Breisacher. They had one child, a daughter named Marsha. In 1943, their mother died unexpectedly. For a brief time, Allan, and his half sister, Marsha, continued living with his step-father. His sister Betty went to live with their real father, who had received an honorable discharge from the Army and was living in Detroit. Soon after his mother died his stepfather was called to active duty in World War II by the U.S. Army. His stepfather lost his life one year later, in 1944, at the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest in Germany. Allan went to live with his father and sister in Detroit for a brief period. On his own at the age of 17, Allan lied about his age and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945. After his discharge he was still unsure what to do with his life. So, in 1948, he decided to enlist in the U.S. Army. He saw action, in Korea, during the Korean War. He served until 1951, before receiving an honorable discharge. In 1954 he met Carolyn M. Sberna, and they were married in 1955. They had two sons. Sam in 1957 and Jeff in 1959. For a time Allan sold insurance. He was his companies top insurance salesman one year, winning a trip to California where he was able to meet Dinah Shore. In 1960 he took a job with a prominent Toledo Law Firm, heading up their debt collection department. He left the firm in 1963, deciding to start his own Collection Agency. In the late 1960's he became a member of the Republican Club of Lucas County, Ohio. Eventually he became an officer, serving as Vice President in 1970, and as President in 1971. His eldest son came to work for him in 1973 at the collection agency, followed by his other son in 1987. Allan operated his business, successfully, for 42 years. In the Spring of 2004 he was diagnosed with cancer, and fought a long and courageous eighteen month battle, which he eventually lost at the age of 77. He was a loving, wonderful and caring father, and grandfather, and is deeply missed by his family.
