Huron, SD: Raycroft Bernard Keating, 97, formerly of rural Carpenter, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Huron Regional Medical Center. The, son of Edward and Estelle (Reynolds) Keating,he was born on October 8, 1915, on a farm southeast of Carpenter, SD. He attended Davenhill Grade School through the 8th grade. Following his formal education Raycroft continued to farm. On September 30, 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He volunteered for submarine duty and attended submarine school in New London, CT, and diesel mechanics school in Columbia, MO. He served aboard the USS Paddle as a diesel engine mechanic in the Pacific Theater off the coasts of Midway Island, Pearl Harbor (Hawaii), Okinawa, Australia, the Yellow Sea, and the Panama Canal. He was honorably discharged on December 22, 1945. On October 8, 1945, (Raycroft's birthday) he married Della Davis at St. William Catholic Church, rural Yale, SD. He then served 2 more months of obligated military duty before his discharge. Raycroft and Della lived their entire married life on their farm in rural Carpenter. Raycroft's work (farming) was also his hobby. He raised cattle, sheep, and hogs, as well as crops of corn and small grain, and he broke and worked with horses. He moved off of the farm in December 2006 and moved to Huron. He became a resident of StoneyBrook Suites in September 2011. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Iroquois and past member of the parish councilHoly Trinity Catholic Parish in HuronAmerican Legion Bensley-Rounds Post #280 of Iroquois; DAV; Carpenter Farmer's Union; Iroquois Township Board of Directors; and Beadle County FHA committee. He is survived by 5 sons, Michael (Linda) Keating of Iroquois, Greg (Machelle) Keating of Carpenter, Tim (Mary Ann) Keating of Colorado Springs, CO, Randy (Penny) Keating of Yale, and Marti (Aileen) Keating of Huron; 1 daughter, Mary (Bruce) Addleman of Prior Lake, MN; 24 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 1 sister, Dolores Ford of Huron. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Della on August 1, 1992; infant daughter, Bernadette; infant granddaughter, Alison; 3 brothers, John Keating, Pete (Margaret) Keating, and Roy (Lil) Keating; 2 sisters, Bernice Keating, and Frances (Nick) Kiefer; brother-in-law, Darby Ford. Burial at St. Williams Cemetery, rural Yale, SD
