Lee Roy Goss, 90, died Sunday, February 17, 2013, in Savannah. A native of Ball Ground, Mr. Goss joined the Navy in 1940. He was the Chief Pharmacist Mate on the submarine USS Baya and was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal w/star and Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/star. In 1946, he was hired by the Upjohn Company, and he and his wife Betty, his high school sweetheart, moved to St. Simons Island. Mr. Goss served as Sunday School Superintendent of the First Baptist Church there and also earned his private pilot's license. In 1974 the couple moved to Savannah. On retiring from Upjohn, Mr. Goss attended Armstrong State College and, at the age of 70, earned a BA in English literature. He is survived by his wife Betty, daughters Glenda Goss and Angela Goss, and two grandchildren, Beth Thompson and James Thompson. Buried at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens, St. Simons, GA.
