James Lee Hall was born September 26, 1922, to Frank and Lucy Hall in Pixely, Calif. He passed away, at home, Nov. 7, 2012, after a brief illness. He was 90.
A resident of Ventura County for 64 years, James was a retired plumber, a member of the Ojai Lions Club and a charter member of the Submarine Veterans.
James was preceded in death by his wife Nadine and now leaves behind his daughters, Christine Carmody and Nancy Clark; sons, Frank and James Hall; sister, Wilma Henley; brother, Jerry Hall; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday Nov. 17, 2012, in the Chapel at Charles Carroll Funeral Home; 15 Teloma Dr. Ventura, CA 93003.

Qualified in submarines on the USS Tautog (SS-199) in 1944 and was a SM2(SS) when he left the Navy.
Chain of Command Rear Admiral William Bernard ?Barney? Sieglaff was a member of the Naval Academy graduating class of 1931 with a degree in Engineering. He also received a Master?s Degree from MIT in Naval Engineering prior to the war. On submarines during WWII he was the commanding officer of the Tautog (SS-199) from 28 November 1942 to 8 April 1944 and the Tench (SS-417) from 6 October 1944 to March 1945. His record in the Pacific gained him two Navy Crosses, three Silver Stars, and two Legions of Merit.
Other Memories War Patrols 9-10-11-12, aboard 12/3/43 to 11/20/44 Her next four patrols, in December 1943 - August 1944, took her to the Japanese home islands, including the chilly northern Pacific. This period was a very productive one, with the destroyer Shirakumo and eleven Marus falling victim to Tautog's torpedoes. A stateside overhaul followed, with the submarine's thirteenth war patrol, into the East China Sea, beginning in December 1944. The next month she sank a landing ship and a motor torpedo boat tender to conclude an extraordinary combat career.
