BALL SR Ellis "Pete" Ball, Sr., left this world after a long illness Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the age of 84. He was born in Lyman, MS and was a long time resident of Eight Mile, AL. Mr. Pete Ball was retired from Brookley Field and the Alabama State Department. He also served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1949 aboard the U.S.S. Brill Submarine and U.S.S. Blue Ridge as a deep sea diver. He was a loving husband full of life and laughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis E. Ball and Ida Ray Pope Ball; a brother, Richard "Bud" Ball; two sisters, Rae Helveston and Dot Benefield and a daughter in law, Ester Ball. Mr. Pete Ball is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara Jean Ball; three children, Joe (Pat) Ball, Tee Ball and Ruby (Joe) Anderson; six grandchildren, Melody Newton, Daphne Pettus, Ellis Ball, Joshua Anderson, Audria Burris and Kevin James; twelve great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and even more friends. The family of Mr. Ball would like to extend a special thanks to the following people of the Infirmary Hospice, the V.A. Home Bound Services and others who took care of Mr. Ball: Renee Grimes, Felicia Ball, Wanda Robinson, Kathleen McHenry, Fredna Moberg, Sandra McMillan, Annie Boster, Susan Guillory and Aline Hansberry. Funeral services will be held from Shadowlawn Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 12 Noon. Visitation will be 11 A.M. until service time Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Other Memories On 23 April 1946 she departed for Pearl Harbor where she commenced repairs on 1 May. Departing Pearl Harbor 12 September, she made a cruise to Midway; Adak and Kodiak, Alaska; and Indian Island, Puget Sound, Wash. She returned to Pearl Harbor 9 November 1946. Brill continued training exercises around Hawaii with Submarine Squadron 5 until 4 September 1947 when she departed for San Diego
