Gary's tour with HA(L)-3 was 9/11/1969 to 7/10/1970. Gary’s tour was cut short after he was wounded on the firing range by an officer who didn’t know the safety was off and shot him through the right leg. He was transferred to NAVHOSP YOKUSKA, later discharged. He lost the bottom half of leg, but went on to become a Sgt. with the Easton, MD Police Department for 18 years working in SWAT & DARE, until he passed away from severe brain hemorrhage at age 44. He also suffered from Trigeminal Neuralgia. Gary is buried in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton, MD.
