Someday you'll be someone's memory...
make sure it is a good one.

If you can't do that, then at least don't hurt them."

Best Friends Not exactly friends, but I got on real well with OXFORD's CO, Captain Sven Backstrom. and OXFORD's Operations Officer, CDR Gene Sullivan (later Captain).
Best Moment Being selected to go ashore to evaluate what OXFORD could do to support U.S. Army ASA units which had been decimated during TET '69. Subsequently returned to the ship and led sailors back to Bien Hoa, integrating into Army ASA ops.
Worst Moment On reporting aboard in Bangkok, Thailand the person I was to replace had his seabag in one hand, shook mine and said "Good Luck". Other than a brief visit to a FRAM II destroyer I'd never been aboard a ship before. Second worst was in preparation for abandoning ship I had our rubber inflatable rafts taken out of their protective canisters. The WWII K-rations were dessicated. All the fishing lines were rotten and the fishooks rusty stains. Last the raft had totally deteriorated and could not be inflated even if the air pump had worked.
Chain of Command CTF-73.CPF
Other Memories Ineptitude of officers recalled to active duty on both professional and naval levels. OXFORD was not considered to be good duty for them.
