Danny Eugene Caruthers, 57, of Great Mills died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonard-town.
Born June 21, 1943, in Russell, Kansas he was the son of Violet Idonna McLaughlin Caruthers of Kansas City, Mo., and the late Robert Ross Caruthers. He was raised on a farm in Nebraska until age 11.
In 1961, he graduated from Alliance High School. After graduation he spent six months in the Army National Guard. Mr. Caruthers joined the Navy in the fall of 1960, when he became an aviation electronics technician. His first duty station was Attack Squadron 113, NAS Lemoore, California. While he was in Lemoore, he married his Nebraska Sweetheart, Jo an Anita Stanley, in 1964. In 1966, they moved to Millington, Tennessee, then to Barbara Point, Hawaii, where they resided until 1970. From 1971 until 1974, he was with fighter Squadron 102, NAS Oceana Virginia. From 1975 until 1978 he Taught advanced AVC 7 Courses. In 1978 he was with UP8, Brunswick, Main, until 1983. In 1983 They moved back to Patuxent River where he was stationed until he retired in 1985. Mr. Caruthers then worked for several years at Columbia Research Corp., until he joined VEDA, now Veridian. He was still employed at Veridian at the time of his death.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Caruthers is survived by his wife, Joan A. Caruthers of Great Mills; two sons, Eric Wade Caruthers of Charlotte, N.C., and Anthony Scott Caruthers of Dameron; one sister, Deanna Lea Harlon of Independence, Mo.; and grand children, Wade Daniel Hann-Caruthers and Alexa Danielle Hann-Caruthers Charlotte N.C., and Sean Perry Caruthers of Portland, Oregon.
Friends many call today, Wednesday, June 28 From 6 to 8 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart Of Mary Catholic Church in Lexington Park, when prayers will be recited at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated tomorrow, Thursday, June 29 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas A. Gude officiating. Interment will be of Monday July 10 at 2 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
