Other Memories During Operation MAMELUKE, Company L was under(OPCON)(Operational Control) of the 1st Battalion, and with two of the 1st Battalions Company's in heavy contact with enemy forces Company L was ordered to counter attack from the south and assist with the medical evacuation of the Marine casualties. The Marines units battled throughout the day with an enemy that was well entrenched using all available weapons they had at their disposal. At the end of the day long battle, two USN corpsmen had been killed in action, twelve Marines had been killed and over forty men were wounded. HN Rodriquez was one of those casualties; he died as a result of multi fragmentation wounds from hostile mortar or RPG (rocket propelled grenade) fire.
