Richard Worsam Meade III (also called Richard Worsam Meade, Jr., by many sources) served during the American Civil War. Meade's post-Civil War career marked him as one of the Navy's most prominent reformist and technologically minded officers.

Two ships have been named USS Meade for him and his brother, Brigadier General Robert Leamy Meade, USMC:

USS Meade (DD-274), a Clemson-class destroyer commissioned in 1919; transferred to the Royal Navy as HMS Ramsey (G60), 1940
USS Meade (DD-602), a Benson-class destroyer commissioned in 1942 and decommissioned in 1946.
