Best Moment
I was scheduled to leave check-out and leave the ship by 1000 August 30, 1989 - 1000 came an went, I was told that YN1 had my service record and was off the ship. I paced the quarterdeck until after 1100 when I saw YN1 returning to the ship. He told me he could not give me my service record until after lunch.
At turn-to, the word was passed for a Captain's Call on the flight deck. The Captain had some things to say about the up coming deployment, then turned the rostrom over to the X.O. - who call for me to step "front and center".
As I stepped through the crew, I saw CDR La Fleur standing there with with a big smile on his face and a Navy Acheivment Medal in his had.
I took one look and said, "You Son of a Bitch", the X.O. stumbles as he read the citation and the Captain's smile just got BIGGER.
