Best Moment ....... temporarily assigned to 'wait' at Barbers Point..... and told to thoroughly enjoy Honolulu for over a six week period, as we and ships crew stood ready for the splashdown of Apollo 15 in the summer of '71. Repeated trips out to the pickup area, about 300 miles NW of Hawaii for "practice".... then back in for more downtime at NAS Barbers Point, a little helo washing, a little base 'EM Club' and another tour of the island beaches. Every so often our helo would be given 'orders' to fly out, fly by, and harass thoroughly the two Russian trawlers also assigned to the Apollo splashdown excersise. They waved at us, we waved at them.....then it was back to Oahu for dinner out.
