Organized and lead "Mickey Mouse Battleships," a flotilla of armed and armored ship's boats from the scuttled USS Canopus (AS-9). These small boats harassed the invading Japanese during the defense of the Philippines in early 1942. Later the crews fought on land as armed shore parties during the defense of Bataan and Corregidor.
