Last Known Activity:

Leading Chief, Navy Photo Lab, Trinidad, BWI. 1961

Chief Aviation Photographer's Mate Phillips (Ret.) went to work as a photographer for the Apollo Systems Division of General Electric in Daytona Beach and worked on the Apollo projects for NASA and the Tank Simulation projects for the Army before final retirement.

He stayed active with his Fleet Reserve unit for over 40 years and served in every office of the chapter, including President and Past  President.

Other Comments:

Chief Phillips took thousands of photographs during his Naval career. Most, but  not all were turned in to the naval archives through normal channels. Several hundred photos of a personal or special nature were never submitted. It was his wish that after his death the many albums of retained photos should be donated to the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola for their archives. Per his wishes those were donated to the museum in the summer of 2007. Many, many never before seen squadron and air crew photos taken during WWII while attached to Utility Squadron 7, Torpedo Squadron 6, Air Group 6, the USS Enterprise, the USS Intrepid and his later assignments now reside there. If you haven't been to this fabulous museum it is well worth the trip!
