I have recently retired after 25 years in public education to take a position with the VA in Waco, working as a Blind Rehab Specialist.
Following graduation from Red Oak High School (20 miles south of Dallas), I enlisted with the U.S. Navy. After completing a five-year hitch as a Navy Journalist, I attended Stephen F. Austin University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History. I later earned master's degrees in Educational Diagnostician (Stephen F. Austin State University), Orientation and Mobility (SFASU), and Hearing Impairment (Texas Tech).
I continue to contract part-time (evenings and weekends) with the Texas Workforce Commission (Formerly DARS) to provide Orientation and Mobility instruction to adults who have lost or who are losing their vision so that they can regain their independence and confidence.
My wife, Carrie, and I have three sons: Dolan, Cavanaugh, and Kane.
