In December of 1990 HS-75 packed 3 stripped SH-3Hs and 50 Sailors onto a C-5A Galaxy and carted them to the tropical paradise of Diego Garcia, BIOT. Detachment Alfa provided SAR support for the SAC B-52Gs/KC-10/KC-135 flying missions to Kuwait and Iraq. Det Alfa made the only overwater rescue of the war saving 3 members of a 6 man crew of a B-52G which had suffered battle damage and managed to limp to within 16 miles of the island before finally crashing. AWC Brock Jewell was the ASW First Crewman and AW2 Scott Riccon was the swimmer. Det Alfa finally returned home on 2 June 1991.
