Glenn entered the Navy in July of 1943 where he attended diesel school and was assigned to a newly commissioned mine sweeper, the YMS-473 (originally laid down as PCS-1443). Glenn then traveled to Pearl Harbor, Midway, Guadalcanal, Tulagi, Guam, Okinawa, Korea, and many other Pacific locations. The YMS-473 received one battle star in the Pacific war and was involved with post war operations during September 1945 to February 1946. Glenn was discharged from the Navy as a 1/c MoMM (Motor Machinestmate/diesel, Petty Officer First Class) in April of 1946.
