Gresham, shown here at her launching on 12 September 1896, was a brigantine-rigged 206-foot, 1,090-ton steel-hulled steamer built by the Globe Iron Works Company of Cleveland, OH for $147,800. She was commissioned the following year and was stationed at Milwaukee.
