Fanning Island was a coconut plantation. The guy in charge was Mr. Palmer; and the plantation overseer was a New Zealander named John Fleetwood. We were invited to Mr. Palmer's house for too much beer. This photo shows our Chief Engineer, Bill Brickman, being assisted to the vertical by Palmer.
