A few food photos from my visit a couple of years ago. I think you will recognize some of them. The late night pancakes were interesting with fish, scrimp, bacon and eggs with chopped cabbage.
I spent two weeks in Japan with a dozen of our Eighth Graders in our sister city of Kasakake in Gunma northwest of Tokyo. Hard times hit the town and in a cost cutting effort Kasakake was merged with the neighboring town of Omama and is now known as Midori. The name "Midori-shi", literally means "Greenery City".
The Iwajuku archaeological site is in Kasakake and made the town famous because of a tool that was found at the site and changed the history timeline of man in Japan. "The site of a major archeological discovery, Iwajuku provided evidence of habitation of Japan by humans before 10,000 BC. To date, these are the oldest record of human dwellings from Japan's past."
The top photo was a dinner with the Mayor and City Council. Next was special dinner with the family I stayed with and the bottom two were at the home of one of the teachers. His wife's mother and father live with them and their two girls. A typical three generation Japanese home.
