Ten years ago when we were living in Silverdale, WA my then 13 year old son decided to jaywalk across a busy street. He thought he was going behind the car but the car was merging toward him. His foot went competely around the rear tire of the car. He suffered a compound tib-fib fracture & came within inches of tearing his foot off completely.
A young man was pulling out of the parking lot & happened to see the accident. He raced into the street & gathered my son up & pulled him to the sidewalk. He held my son in his arms, trying to keep him calm & not letting him look at his foot. By doing so, the young stranger kept my son from bleeding to death.
I never got a chance to thank him.
Fast forward to a few days ago. As is my usual, I check on who has looked at my profile. I send a pm to anyone who drops by. Sometimes I get a reply, sometimes not. I got one from CWO3 Steven Lewis. I noticed on his profile that we had lived in the same area at the same time. We started talking about how we loved the green & how the area had grown. Really nice guy.
Move ahead to today. I was going through my papers in my fire safe in preperation for my move when I come across the insurance papers along with the police report of my son's accident. Listed as a witness is Steven Lewis.
No way. Could it be? I check the birthday. And send him a pm.
They are one & the same man.
So I finally get to do what I have wanted to do for years.
Thank you Steven, for being there, for being the kind of man you are. You have told me it was no big thing, but it was everything to me.
