This is a scan of the letter I recieved, after helping arrange a mini-reunion of WW2 USS ALABAMA shipmates, Bob Feller and Ed Shanahan. This letter means more to me, than any of the "automatic Letters of Commendation", I had received while on recruiting duty for exceeding set point quotas for numbers of enlistments. I threw those letters in the trash where they belonged.
Sadly, in 1994 I had learned of Mr. Shanahans' passing, when I was employed at the local VA Hospital.
