They say that you are supposed to surrender this card to your captors, should you find yourself in enemy hands. The idea being that they would then know that you are a medical person and you are to be allowed to take care of your fellow POW's. Somehow, I don't think that would be the case with most of the bad guys out there in the world, so I never planned on showing mine to them. Clandestine medical tratment is better than none at all!
