Chain of Command
I was attached to the test squadron but TAD'd to NAVAIR as the Assistant Director over the CASS test team.
Other Memories
Bill Birurakus and the CASS Team. Sorta like McHale's Navy on shore duty! Good times were had by all. Nice retirement ceremony from the NAVAIR PMA-260 folks. Capt Stu Paul was a class act. It was good to have associated with him.
Other Memories
Best and worst was a mixed bag. If VFA-131 was the "best," VQ-5 was the "other." (Not all related to squadron activities.)
Orchestrated the Homeport move with a couple of other fine officers in the outfit at the time. Can't remember their names but they were a big help. The CPO's in the squadron were top notch all the way. Probably the best supporters I ever experienced on either side of the rank structure.
Became a certified Dive Master (civilian) at this duty station. That was fun.

CDR Stachelczyk. Good boss. Good friend. Learned that there is more to the Reserve component of the Navy than meets the eye. Although, wierd things do happen. Like the female U.S. pistol packin' Marshal and a "Code 06" on an inbound reservist flight.

The Navy issues the marksmanship ribbon in three levels, that of Marksman, Sharpshooter, and Expert. The basic ribbon is awarded for the Marksman level while the specific Marksmanship Device is awarded for qualification as a Sharpshooter or Expert. Worst Moment
The worst kept getting worse. But it is designed that way until graduation.
Other Memories
Graduated "Top Military" and awarded the "PT Rock" (absolute LAST place for PT). One point above mandatory set-back. Couldn't have done it without the assistance of the company. What a bunch of guys!

Assisting to set up the infant Naval Enlisted Education Advancement Program (EEAP). Myself and an RM1 assisted the director in setting up the structure for muster and personell accounting. Brand new program and it was initially very chaotic.
There was no "Plank Owner" certificate given here but our class constituted the very first selectees and graduates from this program.

Best Moment
Selection for Standard Arm Missle training. Became EW "savvy" and it became my sub-career path for many assignments to come.
The other best moment was meeting my wife to be at this duty station.
Worst Moment
T-boning a drunk driver who ran a stop sign. Nearly got busted even though I was "the victim" because I had damaged government property (me!).
