Cmdr. O'Flaherty was assigned to detached duty from the Seventh Logistics Air Wing to the Headquarters Chinese Air Force Command located in Taiwan, China on Sept. 1957.Cmdr. O'Flaherty was assigned to the U.S. Navy section of the Joint Operations Center. Cmdr. O'Flaherty was to teach and participate in joint air defense exercises and air-sea rescue activities to the Chinese Air Force . Cmdr O'Flaherty was not only successful in his duties and mission, but was presented with a citation and given a pair of Chinese Air Force Pilot Wings in appreciation for his earnest efforts in promoting the traditional friendship between our two countries. The certificate was translated in Chinese and signed by Lt.Gen. C.S. Chen, Commanding Officer,Chinese Air Force and presented to Cmdr. O'Flaherty on 16 Oct.1958

This was a Heavy Attack Wing-One Squadron (Nuclear Delivery capability), He was Commanding Officer of the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and his job was mainly testing the aircraft and its weapons systems in the Weapons System's Facility.My father was also a test pilot in many different types of aircraft as well.
