Just missed Mt. Pinatubo eruption by three days! We left P.I. on Sunday, Pinatubo erupted Wednesday. Proteus pulled into Guam on Friday, I transferred on Saturday, Proteus headed back to P.I. for relief efforts on Monday.

Taking an 'overnight' flight to Anchorage on P-3 with VP6. Due to weather and mechanical problems, it took us six days to get back. This put a group of us in Anchorage for New Year's Eve, 1988.
