Funny: Night baker put bread dough down the officer's toilet while in the Med and it did not go all the way to the sanitary tank. One officer experienced something green rising from the toilet as he tried to flush the toilet. We had all hands on deck before we figured out it was not a monster in the sanitary tank but a dough ball my MS had tried to flush because he had put too much yeast in the dough and it had risen onto the floor of the galley while he was watching midnight movies with the crew and not watching his dough. It was funny at the time but I received a lot of ribbing from other officers about my monster in the Officer's Head.

Funniest moment, daily room and personnel inspection, my room mate had left his fly open and the inspector asked me if I had checked out my room mate before inspection. I answered everything except his fly. It was really funny.

My roommate (a nuclear power officer candidate) did not make it through OCS. He went UA. He could not take the stress.
I reported to OCS after Christmas 1978. I was a newly capped Missile Technician Chief. Being a CPO officer candidate was enjoyable as most of the others leading Officer candidates were former enlisted. I became the Battalion Commander for the last 8 weeks of OCS. There was only one other CPO in OCS while I was there. We ended up on the same submarine a year and half later.

Meeting and having soup with Marine SSGT Carlos Hathcock (White Feather) in the AS-33 First Class mess and having long conversations about his sniping (93 confirmed kills) in Vietnam. He wore a Silver decoration on his uniform with the number 93. He was a wealth of knowledge on sniping and firearms. Burned from being blown off of a half track in Vietnam, he was scared up on much of his body. He has since been named "the father of Marine Corps sniping" and I did not fully understand his personal accomplishments and contributions to our Nation at that time. His life has been memorialized in two books written about him. "Marine Sniper".
Getting married and having my first child. Bremerton Naval Shipyard and the Panama Canal. Getting selected for and attending PORI school at Lockheed Missile and Space Corp. in Sunnyvale, Calif. I also went to Interstate Electronics Corp in Anaheim, Calif. for part of the PORI curriculum.

Standing bridge watch underway as a phone talker and getting Sea Sick on the bridge in the phone storage box. I had to clean the box out the next morning and it was not pleasant. Breaking a mooring line and seeing one of my shipmates fall to his death down a Missile storage tube while handling missiles to a submarine.
S I also recall a very bad night on Shore Patrol when we had to quell a race riot on the pier after the EM club closed. I did not get back to the ship until 7AM the next morning,
I also remember having to turn in my LPO to our leading Chief for smoking marijuana. He was a career sailor and had put in for Warrant Officer. He was discharged as a result of his illegal activities and I have always felt guilty about having this incident.
