Other Memories
As RD2, served as LPO for OI Division during 3rd and last 6-month WESTPAC deployment under RDC Jaco; Ens. Bauer was Div. Ofcr.; LCDR Jones was OPS. Also was Charts PO, Pubs PO, SP, Ops Duty Driver, Guard Mail PO, & Sect. PO.
Completed 6-yr mil obligation in 1962. Was working and attending college when Vietnam got hot. Joined the NR at NRC on GA TECH campus so I could be recalled if needed. Wasn't recalled. Received AB and relocated to Northern VA to attend grad school and for new position w/gov't. Xfered to SELRESCRU in Washington DC. Great unit and good people.
Best Moment
Drilled with the NTC Drill Team in preparation of boot camp graduation day ceremonies. Practiced the famed 'Queen Anne Salute' and performed for entertainment of the friends and families. Enjoyed precision marching!
Worst Moment
Later, when checking out of (electronics)service school & base to go to ship; OOD assigned me 10 hours extra duty: 2 for being in barracks, 2 for using shower, 2 for having work boots on deck, 2 for not having rack squared away, and 2 for not being in uniform of day. My seabag already packed, I departed for San Diego. Still owe the USN that 10 hours.
