1.) Pinning of my Chief's anchors - 9/25/04. I never thought I ever had a chance to make Chief, and I tell people that when I got the phone call from my CO on 6/2/04 saying I was a Chief selectee, it changed my entire life! 2.) Two-week Annual Training at the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany June and July 2006, during the World Cup soccer shindig. I had a blast! I and three others from my unit went as a group. Unforgettable. We also got to visit Austria and Italy. Talk about the trip of a lifetime.
Worst Moment
1.) Having to take a bust one paygrade to come back into the reserves sucked. I left active duty as a CTO2, and had to come into the reserves as a YN3. I was 32 years old, and I felt so old to only be an E-4. But I had a 5 1/2 year gap, so I guess I was lucky I didn't have to come in as an E-3!
2.) Getting voluntold for mobilization as an IA to Afghanistan. I realized that my number would come up someday, but never like that. I feel that the IA is a back door draft. While getting a routine physical, the doctor discovered a large ovarian cyst. I'd had one rupture months before. My mob orders were cancelled, and I wound up having a hysterectomy in February 2007. They discovered I had not only the ovarian cyst, but a softball sized endometriosis mass that no test had previously detected. Fortunately, it was benign, just a little longer recovery than I anticipated. In December 2006, I made the difficult decision to go IRR and walk away from it all. I've had arthritis for awhile, and it got to the point where I could no longer run or pass a PFA, so I figured I'd go out on top instead of waiting for the Navy to kick me out.

My marriage to my husband Ron - 7/2/92
Other Memories
I got off active duty December 1990, and had no intention of going back in as a reservist or whatever. Then on Flag Day in 1994, I marched in the parade with some others in my job, and had a feeling like something was missing in my life. It was like a light bulb went on. It was so obvious, but it didn't really hit me until then. I realized that I wanted to come back into the Navy, but not full time. It took me some time to get my husband's blessing, but eventually I did, and I joined Navy Reserves in May 1996.

I met my husband, Ron Adams at this command. Even though I never liked the CTO rating, it was the best mistake I ever made. I never would have met Ron, if I hadn't picked that rating. I have many memories of Virgina - cruising down Atlantic Avenue in Va. Beach, awesome seafood at Captain Georges, many trips to Richmond, swimming in the frigid Atlantic Ocean.
Other Memories
I climbed Mt. Fuji in 1986. Physically, I believe it was the most difficult thing I ever did. Seeing the sun come up at the summit was worth all the pain, fatigue, and altitude sickness! I have fond memories of partying all night out on the Honch, walking along the cherry blossoms in the spring, shopping in Yokohama and Tokyo, and many, many train trips all over the country. Yoko was my favorite duty station. If I knew then what I know now, I would have extended.

Best Moment
Making CTO3 with an advancement exam score of 77 out of a possible 80 - first increment and then some!
Other Memories
I fell in love with the sea. I loved to go swimming in the ocean. I also did a lot of shopping. My favorite malls were Pearlridge and Ala Moana. I also enjoyed walks in the beautiful rain forest adjacent to the base I was on. I also enjoyed talking on the phone to my parents in Wisconsin in the middle of winter and telling them how nice the weather was. I'm sure they both wanted to throttle me. :)
Best Friends
It was such a long time ago, that I can't recall anyone specific, but I do remember I had buddies.
Best Moment
1.) Work week - Week 5 - Spent a week babysitting the newbies and taking them from place to place. Very relaxing. Got to sleep in, read magazines, and play volleyball. 2.) Graduation - got to go to Disneyworld on uncontrolled liberty.
Worst Moment
1.) My first day! I'll never forget DP1 Silva banging trash can lids together to get us out of our racks. One of the girls fainted, fell right on her face and broke her nose! Awful! I remember thinking - "what the hell have I gotten myself into?" It was like something out of a bad movie. 2.) Practice for graduation ceremony - It was hotter than hell, over 100 degrees, and people were dropping like flies.

Other Memories
I remember the chow was so bad that the first couple of weeks, the only thing I could keep down was jello, and that's all I ate for two weeks. I dropped about 15 pounds, and to this day, even looking at jello makes me want to hurl! :)
Best Moment
Graduating third in my class gave me my choice of duty station, and I picked Hawaii. Many other best moments...Partied like crazy. Loved piling into a taxi with 3 or 4 of my friends and going to the mall, then the club to dance all night.
Other Memories
I squeezed my size 8 body into my roomie's size 6 clothes. I wore civvies many weeks before I was authorized to do so.
