Operational and Building Data

The third Kearsarge (CV-33) was launched 5 May 1945 by the New York Naval Shipyard, New York and commissioned 2 March 1946. Decommissioned 16 June 1950. Recommissioned 15 February 1952. SCB-27A modernization completed in March 1952. Redesignated CVA-33, 1 October 1952. SCB-125 modernization completed in January 1957. Redesignated CVS-33, 1 October 1958. Decommissioned 13 February 1970. Sold for scrapping in February 1974.

 

CV-33 was named Kearsarge to commemorate the prior service of other US warships that had borne the name. Kearsarge is a mountain in Merrimack County, New Hampshire
