Description
Established by CNO on 01 February 1964 as Boat Support Unit Two, a component command of Naval Operations Support Groups, Atlantic Its mission was to administer the newly reinstated PTF (Patrol Torpedo Fast) Boat program and to operate high speed craft in support of Naval Special Warfare Operations, this primarily in conjunction with UDT and SEAL units.

BSU-2 was initially formed to run and maintain high speed boats for the UDT and Seal teams at Little Creek.

The Squadron was first commissioned as Coastal River Squadron TWO on 01 July 1971 with headquarters at the U.S. Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, Norfolk, Virginia. This command is a component of Naval Warfare Group TWO as part of the Special Operations Command.CRS-2 received part of the PTFs and continued training on the East Coast. They operated as Coastal River Divisions 20, 21, 22 and 24
