USS INTREPID   (CV-11)

(later CVA-11 and CVS-11)

"Intrepid" means "fearless, brave." CV-11 was named to commemorate the previous service of three US warships:

1. A ketch captured to the Tripolitans.
2. A steam torpedo ram.
3. A steel-hulled bark.
