HOW WE GOT STARTED:
The "Tri-State Navy Chief's Association" was first organized on 9 March 1985 at a retirement dinner party honoring MSCS Ken Peterson and MSC Jim Cronk. As suggested by EQCM Doug Johnson, a hat was passed among all Chief Petty Officers in attendance to collect a monetary gift for the retirees. When presented with the $231.00 that was collected, the retirees mutually agreed to refuse it. They returned the money to EQCM Johnson, BTC Hausken, YNC Corey and RMC Siemonsma requesting that it be used as the financial foundation for a Chief's Association. EQCM Johnson served as President and organizer of the Association until an official meeting and election of officers could be held. MSCS Peterson and MSC Cronk were then designated as the ONLY lifetime members of the Chief's Association that had been formed in their honor. The first official meeting of the association was held on 13 April 1985 at the Naval Reserve Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
