Who says real men don't cry? This was Paul Guttman's favorite picture, which he took on the Shuri Line, Okinawa, 1945. A Marine weeps while his wounded best friend receives a transfusion from a Corpsman on the battlefield (note the plasma bottle hanging from the rifle). The Corpsmen, who, like Paul, belonged to the Navy, accompanied the Marines into combat and routinely risked their own lives to save those of wounded Marines.
