A decorated WWII submarine, the USS Bluegill, was set on the bottom off Lahaina, Maui to serve as a trainer for submarine rescue operations. Once a quarter Coucal would steam from her homeport at Pearl Harbor to lay a 4-point moor and conduct diving operations at the sub. When Coucal was decommissioned in 1977, the Bluegill was removed and disposed of in deeper waters.
