I took this snapshot in mid 1970. The statue stood in downtown Saigon at Tudo and Le Loi Streets in front of the old French opera house. As I recall, the opera house was being used as for the Vietnamese Legislature so I never went inside. The statue was destroyed shortly after the fall of Saigon in 1973.
There was another 'soldiers' monument north of Saigon at the entrance to their military cemetery which ended in a similar fate.
