Promoted to LCDR while on AT at NAS Agana. Base XO, CDR C.P. Sullivan, signed my promotion papers. Went to "Big Navy" and got my new ID Card, celebrated my promotion at Taragui (sp.) Beach that Friday evening!

Got to NAS Agana just in time to secure for an oncoming Typhoon, which fortunately turned north and missed Guam.

Description Team Spirit was a joint military training exercise of United States Forces Korea and the Military of South Korea held between 1976 and 1993. The exercise was scheduled from 1994 to 1996 but cancelled in each year as part of diplomacy to encourage the Government of North Korea to disable the North Korean nuclear weapons program. The North Korea regime abandoned talks following the January 1986 Team Spirit exercises, and in late 1992, North Korea unilaterally withdrew from the South-North High-Level Talks on the pretext of the 1993 Team Spirit exercise.
Until 2007 the exercise had been called "Reception, Staging, Onward Movement and Integration of Forces" (RSOI). As of March 2008, it is called Key Resolve. North Korea has denounced the joint military exercise as a "war game aimed at a northward invasion."... More

They were all GREAT sailors and fine new Ensigns and Warrant Officers....all highly deserving of their new commissions and warrants! They took me in and we had a great class and a great time!!

Being notified at my civilian job at LTV by our Career Counselor at VR-59, AE2 Donnie Gardner, (a TAR in those days), that I'd been selected for the LDO Program.
Worst Moment
Having to muster out of VR-59 upon being commissioned an Ensign, USNR-R. I had been VR for 13 years in VR-2211, RTU-52, RTU-53, VR-53 DET Dallas, and VR-59. I had so many shipmates and friends there, and so many mentors who taught and motivated me to always strive for improvement and advancement. It was dfficult, but necessary.

Airlifts to NAS Memphis on Friday Nights and back to NAS Dallas on Sunday nights in C-118s from various VR Squadrons around the country. Weather and mechanicals occassionally made these airlifts fairly exciting and lengthly.
