CITATION:
For meritorious service from 27 February to 16 April 1968 while serving with United States Naval Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit THREE ZERO ONE, Detail BRAVO, at Khe Sanh in the Republic of VietŽnam. As supervisor of the steel worker portion of the runway-repair crew, Petty Officer Adams was responsible for repairing damaged runway matting sections, filling in small holes in the matting, and inspecting the runway for enemy damage. Although the Khe Sanh combat base was under continual enemy rocket, mortar, and artillery attack, thereby making the job of runway repair very dangerous, the runway was maintained in an excellent state of repair throughout the enemy attacks, thus ensuring the resupply of the vital combat base. By his courageous actions and leaderŽship, Petty Officer Adams served to inspire the men working for him, and contributed greatly to the overall success of the mission of Detail BRAVO. His exemplary performance of duty was in keeping with the highest tradiŽtions of the United States Naval Service.
