One of Carrier Group 8's escorts USS Barry, a Forrest Sherman Class DD pulls alongside USS America to begin refueling. This was the day after we left Dubrovnick, Yugoslavia. This photo does not do justice to just how cold and miserable and rough the Adriatic sea was that day. Notice the thin layer of ice on the edge of the flight deck. I can honestly say I had it easy as a helo crewman compared to deck crewmen on a smallboy. USS Barry is now preserved as a museum ship at Washington Navy Yard.
