 Additional Information
Last Known Activity

While anchored off Ngulu in the Caroline Islands on 17 October 1945, with her engines secured, USS Montgomery (DM-17) sighted a mine floating close aboard to port. The wind swung the ship down onto the mine before she could get underway or destroy it. The resulting explosion flooded both engine rooms and one fireroom, ruptured fuel tanks, and killed four of her crew. MM2 Kabala was one of the men killed in action.
