S1c Haas was stationed aboard the USS General G O Squier (AP-130). The ship's mission was to transport soldiers and sailors from San Francisco, CA to various areas in the Pacific Theater. No sources state anything about the ship being involved in any type of combat or accident on the day S1c Haas went missing - February 17, 1944. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency only lists the date of loss and "Pacific" as the location. Nothing is known about the loss from the records available.
