Pat Perry Duncan was raised in Meridian, TX where he worked on his family farm. Like most boys, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and swimming. Church was an important part of the family so he attended Sunday School and services at the First Baptist Church. His sister started calling him Buba and the name stuck - his family used this nickname all the time. To his friends, he was Perry.

Having met and talked to many veteran soldiers and sailors, he considered them real heroes. In his teens, he thought he'd like to be in the Navy and live on a ship. When he went to enlist, they told him 16 was too young. He was disappointed; however, he didn't give up on his dream. The next year, he returned to the enlistment center with letters from neighbors stating he was born in 1921. Without an official birth certificate, the Navy took him at his word and allowed him to join. The details of this service can be viewed throughout this profile.

After the war, Pat Perry Duncan returned home. He worked as a telegraph operator for the Union Pacific Railroad in Wyoming and later transferred to Temple, TX. This was followed by a job as wire chief for the Santa Fe Railroad in Fort Worth, TX.

He found plenty of things to keep him busy after he retired. His main hobby was HAM radios. He also joined Chapter 10 of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association in Waco, TX. Throughout his life, he attended many of the Pearl Harbor, USS Raleigh, and USS Stoddard reunions.
