EN3 Welch served aboard the heavy cruiser USS SAINT PAUL (CA-73). He and several other seamen were killed or listed as missing, when the Motor whaleboat they were in disappeared in Inchon Harbor, South Korea on March 11, 1951.

They did discover 3 bodies but 6 were missing. The Motor Whale Boat, from the USS St. Paul, was last seen about 8:15Pm en route from the Command Ship Eldorado headed back to the cruiser. 

The ships were about 3 miles apart and the Sea was Moderate.

Searchers later found 3 bodies and some floating equipment from the motor whaleboat about 10 miles to the southeast. 

The dead found were Seaman William B Barker of East Hunginton, TN; Seaman Dennis L. Chatellier of Madisonville, LA; and EN3 Adon H. Welch of Syracuse, NY. 

The Missing  were  Ens. Morgan K. Grover of Temple, AZ; Ens Lloyd Morgan Faverof Richmond, CA; Ens James F. Statia of Grainville, NY; FA Ray A. Briggs of Riverside, CA; YN3c Guy J. Deangelis of Brownsville, PA; and SN Roy L Estes of Hermosa beach, CA
